Lesser-Known Temples of Thanjavur

1.Thirumanancheri Temple:
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is renowned as a sacred place for conducting marriages. It is believed that Lord Shiva himself performed the celestial wedding of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi at this temple.

2.Thiruvaiyaru Temple:
Situated on the banks of the river Kaveri, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is famous for its association with Saint Thyagaraja, one of the greatest composers of Carnatic music. The annual Thyagaraja Aradhana music festival is held here in his honor.

3.Vellai Pillayar Temple:
Also known as the “White Ganesha Temple,” this small and charming temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is unique because the idol of Lord Ganesha is made of white stone, giving the temple its name.

4.Kandeeswarar Temple:
Located in the heart of Thanjavur, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is known for its intricate carvings and sculptures that showcase the architectural brilliance of the Chola dynasty.

5.Uppiliappan Temple:
Situated in Thirunageswaram, a village near Thanjavur, this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Uppiliappan form. The temple is known for its beautiful architecture and the annual Panguni Brahmotsavam festival, which attracts devotees from far and wide.
